Composition and meaning still on top for visual communication design

AIGA AIGA’s list of competencies for designers in an interesting way to see what the sense of relevance is in the design community.

In the last years, we have seen the raise of human-centered design. Communication, ergonomics, emotions are always claimed as critical. Yet, the top in the AIGA’s survey is composition, aesthetics, typography, and meaning. I can agree with this if we do not limit our competencies to this, which has been the problem in the past. Cool designs that do not account for human interaction.

I think that human-centered design is critical for a discipline of design; however, a great user researcher may fail even worse if the “visual response” lack of skillful composition and aesthetics
